I'm writing a paper on the health of Chernobyl liquidators and I'm having difficulties coming up with a legit citable source for the types of protective clothing available. Can someone suggest a good article or book (in English) about the types of protective clothing and equipment that was used and how available were said protective measures. So far I've only found sources about certain cohorts (like Estonian clean up workers) but I would like something more general. I understand that protective gear was insufficient, basic and rarely available but I can't really cite National Geographic or such sources. Plus I'd like to point out what exactly is meant under "protective clothing".
The book Voices From Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich has a few interviews with Liquidators who discuss the clothing they wore and the availability of it. Not a lot, but it is mentioned. As far as I remember they were given 3 sets flow clothing, but that had to last them for the duration of their stay in the zone.
