Why is south Africa "more civilized" then the rest of the country?

by jezus317410

From what i understand, Europe is responsible for "separating" Africa into several separate territory's. That not my question tho. I'm looking to understand why South Africa is more civilized then any other part. If Europe was so (for lack of a better word) "invested" in Africa, then why not civilize North Africa. It is closer to Europe which i imagine would make trade easier and cheaper.

Please and thank you.

P.S. Please excuse my lack of proper word usage.

What do you mean by "more civilized"?

I certainly cannot read into your head, but the first thing that I thought of was that South Africa had a much higher European settler population than other African countries (save perhaps Algeria) and that you're, perhaps inadvertently, substituting "white influence" with "more civilized". I think at this point you can see the highly, highly problematic nature of your question. Again, I'm not saying this is exactly what you mean, but it's certainly something you might think about when phrasing your question. So what, exactly, do you mean by "more civilized". European influence or something else?
