I have read, in passing, that English soldiers considered some revolutionary American soldiers to be borderline barbaric due to their employ of guerrilla tactics. What was the logic that made the British officers think this way? I can imagine what their thinking might be, but I want to hear it from the sources. There have got to be some personal journals or even period philosophy (not just american revolutionary) that should explains the rationale for it in depth, but I just can't find it.
Also, I have a nagging feeling that this question has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find it.
