As a Persianist with friends studying post-Pahlavi Iran I'll ask around and get back to you. What I can say for now is that - as with most recent conflicts - there's going to be tons of bias in much literature on the subject. Be sure to tread with caution and look for diverse sources!

There are many books out there that contain outright falsehoods, even some published recently, which for example claim that 'both sides' used chemical weapons (a myth deliberately perpetrated by the US back then, to help Saddam avoid responsibility for his atrocities) despite the fact that it is now very clear that Iran lacked even defensive CW capabilities (not even gas masks)
Another myth: that Iran used young boys to clear mines, each issued their own plastic "key to heaven"
