I was curious to know something. In the historical texts, they talked about "Raising the Dragon Banner" Which signified that they would show no mercy to the opposition.
It was used by Edward Longshanks against the Scots a few times for example.
Do we know what the banner actually looked like? I am looking for a reference picture for a protect.
Which historical texts are you referring to? Dragons were used in many different iconographic contexts throughout history. If you can give us a little more information, that would help narrow down the search. Where you're dealing with Edward I, however, that's a long way back and material evidence may not survive to the extent that we can get you a 100% certain answer.
Based on general medieval heraldry and aesthetics, the dragon banner may have looked something like the Welsh flag, but with the dragon rearing up rather than standing horizontally. Take a look at the flag of Nova Scotia for an idea of posture, even if that animal is technically a rampant lion.
The most likely example is that of the White Dragon (two-legged white wyvern on a red background). Historically, the red dragon is Welsh while the white dragon is English.
