Germany lost WW1, but the Nazi party claimed that Germany was stabbed in the back, that German Aryans are so great, and couldn't possibly have lost a war, except that the Jews (and communists?) stabbed the country in the back with a revolution and caused the end of WW1. Nazis used this myth to explain how German Aryans could be so great, and yet have lost WW1.
Germany lost WW2, and it's defeat was much more obvious. The country was invaded, bombed and significantly damaged. AFAIK the average German at the time knew the country had been beaten. It was occupied for a few years and partitioned. It should be obvious that the German armed forces gave it their all, and still lost. There was also much less Jews in positions of power in Germany in WW2 (!).
So how do modern neo-nazis explain Germany's loss of WW2? How can they reconcile a resounding defeat of German Aryans (as they would see the German Army), with Aryan superiority? What, if anything, is their stab-in-the-back myth?
(I'm unsure if this question falls under the 20 year rule. On one hand, I'm sorta asking a histographical question (How does X view this event that happened >20 years ago?), but neo-nazis are not really historians... If that is insufficent, please view this question as "In the period 1945 -> 1990, how did neo-nazis explain Germany's defeat in WW2?")
The "backstabbing" you mention (dubbed "Dolchstosslegende" by German historians, literal translation: dagger-thrust-legend) refers to the strikes of (mostly socialist-leaning) workers and marine soldiers in 1918 and the subsequent foundation of the Weimar republic by the communists and socialists (and the capitulation and abdication of William II as a result). It should be said that Germany would have probably lost in the long run anyways, but that's not important to the question. IIRC there hadn't been much involvement of Jewish people in those events, apart from those that belonged to those groups, but the prevalent antisemitism added into the growing sentiment of nationalism in the late 1920's and the fabrication of the Dolchstosslegende. Now when the end of WWII was clear, Hitler himself gave order to destroy infrastructure on retreat, to bomb anything and everything the allied forces could use (roads, bridges, railroads, factories, military bases, airports and the like) because, and this is not a direct quote because I can't be assed to look for one, "the eastern people proved itself to be superior to the germanic race, and we have lost our right to power". Now to get to the point of the question: neo-nazis generally don't like to talk about it, but when they do, their explanation is similar to the Dolchstosslegende. They generally lament that the Wehrmacht didn't do enough and that Germany's allies were either incompetent or weak, or that the public didn't support the war enough. I hope that this provides some insight, because I'm writing this off my mind from (essentially AP) history class, but I graduated a year ago, so I might be wrong on a few things.
