Three questions really, mostly focused on the "beer belt" in Europe (Belgium, Germany, etc.) from 1400-1600:
Did monastery's derive significant income from providing scribe services, such as copying pages or hand-written books? How much of their income was typically derived from this work? What are some common examples of this work, did it include private work (like taking dictation for a personal letter), or was it just creating Bibles for sale?
Did their income fall significantly, due to competition from the printing press?
How did monasteries respond to their reduced income? Did some become breweries, or pursue other alternate sources of income?
