What are some significant examples of militarily superior conquerors being inferior to groups they conquered, in other areas.

I'm thinking of civilizations being ahead in astronomy or medicine or math or something similar, but behind in war technology. Thanks.

'Barbarians'/Germanic tribes conquering the western Roman Empire, to some extent. Although the Romans had better military tech than the Germanic tribes, they weren't powerful enough anymore to actually recruit and equip Roman soldiers, so they relied on foederati mercenaries.

Also the Mongols conquering China.
