For whatever reason, PDFs on the EastView.com Pravda Digital Archive (accessible through many University library systems) are not loading at the moment. At least the ones from March and April 1981. Not sure what the issue is. That would be the best source for the official Soviet media response.
I was able to get, based on using the search result summaries in the Pravda Digital Archive to search Google more widely, at least some excerpts of the main April 1st article in Pravda on the incident:

Вашингтон, 31 марта. (Собкор "Правды" Н.Курдюмов). Вчера в 22 часа 25 минут по московскому времени в центре Вашингтона было совершено покушение на президента США Рональда Рейгана. По нему было сделано несколько выстрелов из револьвера. Это произошло около столичного отеля "Хилтон" после его выступления, когда глава администрации направлялся к ожидавшему его автомобилю.
Президент был срочно доставлен в госпиталь университета имени Вашингтона. Там ему сделана операция по извлечению пули, застрявшей в левом легком. Согласно заявлению врачей, жизнь президента вне опасности...
Покушавшийся арестован. Им оказался Джон Хинкли, 25 лет, сын богатого нефтепромышленника из города Эвергрин (штат Колорадо). ЮПИ сообщает, что до недавнего времени Хинкли был членом национал-социалистической партии - крупнейшей в США неонацистской группировки...
"Типичный американский парень", - так охарактеризовал Хинкли один из его школьных учителей.

The first two paragraphs are pretty boilerplate reporting, may as well have been taken from an AP wire story (and may have been!).
The last two paragraphs (beginning with "Покушавшийся арестован") are far more interesting given what I think your question is getting at. Basically, if you don't read Russian, they talk about how John Hinckley was (a) the son of a rich oil executive, (b) a member of the American Nazis, and (c) have a former teacher calling him the "typical American guy."
Interesting points of emphasis!
When the Pravda Digital Archive's PDFs for the general time (April 1-May 1, 1981) start working again, I would advise using the various search terms -- "Рейган" and "Хинкли", mostly -- in that timeframe to search that database for more.
