As I understand it, Thomas Aquinas lived in a world where the existence of God was not something that was doubted. Everyone believed in God and no one was an atheist. If you live in an environment where everyone believes, why bother coming up with five different ways of proving the existence of God? It just seems like a waste of time to come up with arguments for something if you don't expect to need to convince anyone of them.
