I'm trying to find a single firsthand account of the French Revolution that discusses the fall of the Ancien Regime, the Reign of Terror, and the restoration of the government after Napoleon. If there is not one document that does all of this then I'd settle for two or three that cover the three topics thoroughly.
"The Coming of the Terror in the French Revolution" by Timothy Tackett accesses a great number of personal papers and contemporary correspondence, of course, all mentioned in the biblo. For me it was great window, since my French comprehension is Quebec Touristy. The book does point out that the paranoia that grew during terror caused written accounts to dry up.
Gouverneur Morris, the American ambassador to France at the time of the Revolution wrote diaries during his office, and these were published later. They are dull at times, but are a very personal view which is of interest. Some entries are merely lists of the people that he saw guillotined!
