I've watched quite a few documentaries that say that the Great Pyramid is aligned to the north poll with staggering accuracy. I don't doubt this, but they were built thousands of years ago. Wouldn't have contenental shift over this time span changed their alignment? It seems to me that the only explanations would be that the Giza plateau didn't have any shift, or the movement was perfectly east to west. Any thoughts?
Continental drift for the African plate is 2 cm/year to the northeast, or about 90 meters since the pyramids were build, not nearly enough to throw off the alignment.
It is aligned with the True North which is different from the magnetic North Pole that I believe you are confusing it with. True North doesn't move, the magnetic North does.
