My assumption would be that China, India, the middle east, and west Africa would have them, however I really have nothing to base that on. Would western South America have them? Malaysia?
Here's what I know about the history of the barrel:
So far the use of barrels has been traced back to the first millennia BCE, when they were used by Northern European Celtic tribes (largely in Gaul, or modern day France). Through trade, travel, commerce and conflict, this technology diffused into what we know as the Roman Empire around the 3rd century CE. Once the Romans had such a useful technology, it's use diffused across the vast Roman Empire, while the Gauls contributed to the barrels spread in Northern Europe. However, such a sturdy storage container was much pricier than cloth bags and crates, which were also used for storage, and thus only used by those who could afford such a luxury.
