Why did it take so long for humans to invent agriculture, and then why did most civilizations come up with it around the same time independently?

If I understand everything correctly, humans have been around 200,000 years, but we only came up with agriculture within the last 10,000 years. Within that time frame, many cultures have invented agriculture independently.

Hiya,

You might have better luck posting in /r/AskAnthropology. While we have some great archaeologists flaired here, too, this question pertains more to prehistory (the era before written records) where that sub can really shine. Good luck!
