Is there any record of Western colonial powers bringing back new technology/insight from the natives of their colonial possessions?

Aside from bringing back agricultural products from their colonial possessions, do we know of any field that the natives of these places were ahead of Western colonial nations? We constantly hear that the natives of these lands were astounded by the technology of the West, do we have any record of this situation in reverse?

Not to end discussion on this topic, but /u/Reedstilt gave a spectacular response to this question in a previous post that's worth reading. Snowshoes in particular are a wholly superior solution to the problem of movement over extremely mountainous terrain in snow, ice, or sand. It's a sign of how effective they are for local conditions that they were almost immediately adopted by French trappers and explorers in the upper Northeast during the winter.
