The Saducees and Pharisees were two political factions in Judea in the second temple period as you said.

Saducees thought of themselves as conservatives and only accepted the laws of Moses, furthermore they only worshiped at the temple as they saw it as the only place where God dwelled. But they were more of a political party, representing the Jewish aristocracy and priestly caste.

On the other hand Pharisees were teachers (Rabbis) and other educated laymen who accepted the authority of the tradition of the elders such as the Talmud. They worshiped at the temple, but this was one aspect of many they were expected to follow. They followed a Judaism fairly similar to today.
