I'm not a linguist, however I'm curious on why you think the P is no longer pronounced at the beginning of words.

We still have words like: Principal Phallus Proper Physical Pint Pepper Pinnacle Pine Pineapple Pincer Pierce Pilot Prim Plank

Etc... Can't really think of a lot of words that the p is silent on that start with p outside of Psychology
