tl:dr : Nah it's basically it. The franc was in a very bad state because of ww2, and it heavily impacted the pacific islands so France gave them their own money so they wouldn't be so dependant of the situation in France.

During the middle of the 19th century, nothing really existed there in term of economy, a lot of people used troc as their primary method, and the other used a variety of different money including franc obviously but also a lot of other foreign currencies. Basically what they could get their hand on was used.

So France in 1905 decided to standardize the situation and franc became the main and almost sole currency used in these islands. But it meant they became dependant of the situation of the franc which was dependend itself of the situation in France thousand of km away from there. Which obviously became a problem during the second world war since the cash coming from France stopped traveling as far as the pacific and led to situation where some value were simply not in stock anymore so they had to print new value on older banknotes.. Which is not something you want to be forced to do.

After the second world war, France is in a really bad state, and De Gaule devaluate the value of the Franc. Again the polynesian islands had to suffer from that decision since they are heavily dependent of the importation made from their neighbourgh and a weaker franc meant higher price overall. So in 1945 France decided to give them their own money, so they will be more independant and not as heavily impacted by the situation so far away from them. Overall it was a happily welcomed news in polynesie.

Nowadays, they are in talk for switching to the euro, but i don't have much information about that subject.
