Depends on early vs. late war British war mentality.

Early on: Little to nothing. It's important to remember that there wasn't (even amongst the colonists) as there being anything American vs. British about the conflict. They were just British people who lived in North America, whether you lived in London or Philadelphia you were a subject to the same monarch. Britain fully expected loyalist outfits to fight the bulk of the war on their behalf and after the insurrection ended return to normal rule of law.

Late War: Much more complicated. At this point the international recognition as well as the bitterness the war took would have made it nearly impossible to return to the status quo. If the British could turn the war around at this point it would have been necessary to station large amounts of regulars in major cities and commit troops to patrol the roads and highways to keep order. The major revolutionary figures could have expected anything between execution, exile, or pardons, it really depends on the animosity each individual built up. Government wouldn't have been an issue because the colonial government was not valid in the eyes of the British, although they may have taken a lesson and lowered taxes and allowed representatives to appease colonists.
