Is there a layman-friendly book that goes into some detail on kith and kin in Medieval European nobility, its role in war, how the noble class in Europe tended to view one another, and/or how other classes viewed them?

I'm still slowly wading through Christopher Tyerman's How to Plan a Crusade. It's really interesting, but I think it works far better as a reference work than it does as a cover to cover read. It's not particularly in depth, but the breadth of what it covers is pretty impressive. If you've ever had a question about the logistics or day to day practice of planning a crusade, this book probably has an answer. However, if you want a book to curl up on the couch with and read for an afternoon...this one is really dry and a bit of a slog.

Reading recommendation sought: A long time ago in another chapter of my life I was sitting in on a Balkan history class where the instructor made reference to the Karadjordjevic-Obrenovic feud and what an interesting story it was, unfortunately that was a story for another day and I was only sitting in that once. After hearing another reference to Karadjordje the other day I was led to his wiki page and would love to get my hands on some (English language - of it exists) reading material on the subject.

Anything that covers the Serbian uprising, Kardjordje's emergence as a Serbian icon, the Karadjordje-Obrenovic rivalry or anything else that touches on the topic and might be of interest.

Does anyone know a good video/lecture/documentary about western medieval gastronomy?
