I really have five questions. What was an average day like for a soldier in the trenches? What was life like during heavy fighting, especially during battles that lasted months like Verdun? What was a typical day for a soldier who wasn't on the front lines like in a support capacity or manning the artillery? How often did soldiers get leave and where did they usually spend their off hours? Finally, what was it like going to and from the trenches, did they have staging areas before going into the trenches, and how far back were the entrances to the trench system from the front trenches?
