I believe the traditional response is along the lines of, "We don't want to discourage further discussion and more points being made. You might like to look at the American and British accents section of the FAQ:

• Would Americans at the time of the revolution have spoken with a distinct non-British accent? (spoiler alert: yes, from literary evidence of the time. Also, it points to /r/linguistics's Did the Founding Fathers have American accents?
• At what point in time did Americans develop an American accent (or accents, for say the north and south)?"

Though most of the comments are variations on "there are lots of British accents".
