When did the term "Founding Fathers" enter the American lexicon?

Did Washington, Jefferson, etc, call themselves "The Founding Fathers?" That seems weird even for them. So when did we start calling them that?

Warren Harding is often cited as the first man to use the phrase Founding Fathers in various speeches in the years before his presidency, however this is some evidence the phrase started appearing in the 1890s. In the end it seems that Harding popularized the term.
