While Berlin was being invaded and in the months leading to Japan's surrender, were the soldiers still being paid wages by their respective countries? I guess this is more of a question for the German side, but I'm still curious on what happened to the Japanese, considering the mainland wasn't really invaded.
Follow up question: what happened to the soldiers who survived? Were they converted to laborers for the cleanup effort or still used as soldiers under the new government? Because having a couple hundred thousand armed unemployed people doesn't sound like an option.
