I am no historian and have no sources but this is how it was explained to me. The lebanese christians lived in a region of mountains like mount lebanon and were not exposed much to other people. They were sheltered by their community and church. And due to the unimportant landscape, their governors were chosen from amongst themselves.

People with isolated towns and no interaction with multicultural city life could keep their identity more secure. The druze and ismailis had these type of isolated communities that helped them to stop integration.

All other Christian communities with increased interaction had vast numbers of converts and many of them almost converted all.
