The passage above was apparently taken from the Yuma Daily Sun, June 13th, 1982. I've been driving myself crazy trying to find the articles original author.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but are there any archivists here that can lend me a hand?
The article was apparently written by an Associated Press writer, as the article was reprinted in numerous other publications (The San Bernardino County Sun, The Des Moines Register, The Galveston Daily News, and several others) at the same time in 1982. Other versions have the byline as "BERKLEY (AP)".
Unfortunately the online AP archives do not go back to 1982.
Your best bet would be to try and find the AP archivist and get in touch with him/her directly.
