Hunger and soup kitchens/bread lines were well known before and obviously during, the Great Depression, but not after. What specific changes were made to be able to feed Americans and keep them from having to stand in bread lines for almost a century?

I would like to contest your premise here. It seems to me like there are still more than a few hungry Americans nowadays, and plenty of soup kitchens attempting to feed them all. Things have certainly gotten better but I don't think it's entirely correct to say that hunger is not 'well known' in 2016.
