I have checked the reading lists, and while there seem to some great world-centric or US/British-centric Cold War recommendations, I can't see anything on East and West Berlin. While I'm particularly interested in Berlin, any general West and East Germany recommendations would be accepted gratefully too!
And while I'm interested in the divided city, bonus points for anything that follows up with an exploration of how reunification worked.
Most of the books I'm familiar with tend to focus on the Wall, specifically, if they are about Berlin. So I'm trying to find some that are not only about the Wall. I can think of a few you might try, but if I find anything else I'll update this post accordingly.
In the meantime, I suggest Berlin: Divided City, 1945-1989 by Philip Broadbent ISBN-13: 978-0857458025, Stasiland by Anna Funder ISBN-13: 978-0062077325, and Germany Divided: From the Wall to Reunification by A. James McAdams ISBN-13: 978-0691078922. That should be a starting point, at least.
Check your local library for them if you don't wish to buy them. Even if they don't have it in their collection, they can try to ILL (inter-library loan) it from somewhere else. Shameless library plugging by a librarian who loves German history
