What are the first records of people calling themselves "human"?

by Bpbegha

If there is a record, did it mean something else back then? Some special meaning?

The word human can be found in early Greek (anthropos) and Near Eastern texts. In Hebrew human is "adam," adding a fun twist to your question. Another interesting word is "civilized," which was first used by the earliest civilization - the Sumerians. They didn't actually call themselves Sumerians (that name was given to them by Akkadian-speaking people, literally meaning "southerners"). The Sumerians called themselves the Ki.en.gir - meaning lords of the civilized lands.
