The thing is even modern Latin experts disagree on what Classical Latin is like. German experts have their own version of Latin pronunciation, Italian experts have another version, English experts have their own version - although most experts from other countries deride the English pronunciation for being more English than Latin - and so on so on so on. You get the idea.

I did not learn the Church Latin accent, but a mere perusal of a pronunciation guide tells me that the difference is not any larger than the difference between different interpretations of Classical Latin.

So, if Classical Latin sounds like the German Latin accent, for example, then an ancient Roman speaker could probably understand Church Latin better than they would understand English Latin.
