I want to make a diorama of this scene into minecraft, but I can't identify all of the vehicles on my own. From what wikipedia told me there are Tank landing ships with barrage balloons and army halftracks. But there is other things besides that and don't LSTs carry Sherman tanks? I was hoping someone had some knowledge on what everything is like the ships and the ground vehicles, they can make a simple diagram pointing out what is what.
Do you mean this photograph? The vehicles are sometimes indicated as belonging to the US 2nd Armored Division.
The ambulance in the foreground is a Dodge WC-54. A jeep with its canvas foul weather cover in the up position is possibly parked in front of it
There is a column of halftracks towing antitank guns forming up in front of the ambulance and jeep. The guns are the 57 mm M1; the vehicle authorized for towing the piece in armored units was the M2 or M2A1 halftrack, specifically designed as a prime mover for guns with large ammunition storage boxes at the expense of several passenger seats. The M3 or M3A1 halftrack was also used by some units as it offered more space for the gun crew to sit. The authorized prime mover for the 57 mm gun M1 in infantry units was the Dodge WC-62 or WC-63 1-1/2 ton truck. Other trucks, or two jeeps hooked together with a tow bar, were also used as needed. An anomaly among infantry units, the 1st Infantry Division mostly used halftracks to move their antitank guns. The lead vehicle in this column, over to the far left, is a GMC CCKW 2-1/2 ton truck. Interestingly, this column is trying to form up while two disabled M4 Shermans, one equipped with a bulldozer blade, are in their midst.
Immediately above the antitank unit's halftrack column is a beached LCM 3 infantry or light vehicle landing craft.
On the right end of the antitank halftrack column and all the way over to the very right of the picture there is a group of several trucks; they appear to be GMC CCKWs, or variants of it. A hard-top air compressor truck and a van unit are possibly in evidence; the picture is quite blurry when zoomed in on, even at this large size, and it is hard to pick out specific variants of vehicles.
The gaggle of vehicles at the middle left appears to be a reconnaissance unit of M8 Greyhound armored cars forming up. Another halftrack column, possibly components of the unit that the armored cars belong to, is forming up to the left of the group. To the right of the armored cars are several GMC CCKWs. Behind the halftracks there is a column of several M5/M5A1 light tanks or M8 Howitzer Motor Carriages that stretches to the edge of the picture. Armored reconnaissance units had both of these types of vehicles in their organzation.
Immediately above the light tank or self propelled howitzer column at the very left of the picture is a beached LCT Mk. 4 tank landing craft; it faces directly toward the cameraman with its ramp down.
Immediately to the upper right of the group of reconnaissance vehicles, halftracks, and trucks is a beached LCT Mk. 6 tank landing craft with its ramp down.
Many miscellaneous vehicles litter the scene; halftracks, 2-1/2 ton trucks towing ammunition or cargo trailers, 1-1/2 ton trucks, jeeps, and the like
