As someone who was only a couple years old on 9/11, I was wondering how the general public viewed Muslims before then, and what was the general history of Muslims in the U.S? Nowadays, people often have a prejudice against them, and they're stereotyped as terrorists. :( How was it before?

Basically it has to be older than 1996 (the scale shifts every year). While I personally have a different opinion on what constitutes history the majority have agreed to this 20 year rule so there you have it.

Edit, if this question is left up then the answer is that some scholars think that there was still a kind of distrust, but others think that there was (obviously) a radical change in perception regarding the religion. If this question is allowed to stay up then please refer to these papers by various scholars which I have linked below. Reading them should help find people to contact, broaden your sources or give a more specific answer.
