Sorry for the poorly formatted question, I couldn't think of a better way.
Backstory: I will be hosting a pirates vs ninjas party this month and we want to be as historically accurate as possible (while also having fun). Simple googling shows that most pirates drank Grog, (some sort of rum water mixture) but I want to be sure that is accurate. As for the ninjas I found nothing and am unsure if there are any sources that claim what they drank. All I can think of is Sake or shōchū but if there is a more accurate answer that would be great.

The Golden Age of Piracy was about 1650-1730, and the major tipples would have been those of the American and Caribbean colonies: locally-brewed beer, imported wines from Europe, and locally made rum, which was a byproduct of a byproduct of sugar production in the Caribbean. There's a really good popular history of rum by Wayne Curtis called And A Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Six Cocktails. Grog, on the other hand, wasn't adopted by the British navy until 1740 and the word isn't attested until 1770, so the pirates probably didn't have any. A more popular drink was bumbo, which was rum, water, nutmeg, and sugar.
Historical ninjas were in operation from the 15th-17th centuries. Both sake (rice-wine) and shōchū (distilled or fortified sake) were available - see Xavier and the Oldest Record of Shōchū - and probably would have been the main tipples, although there are local variants and possibly more choice available from trade with China, Korea, etc.
