Did people in prehistoric times walk/run around barefoot?

by Lucaluni

I was walking through some woods today barefoot and it really hurt. Plus there were spikey plants everywhere.

How did people who walked barefoot do it?

Not wearing shoes for the first time in ever isn't the same thing as never having worn shoes. It's not a fair comparison because you've spent almost all of your life wearing socks and shoes. You probably don't walk miles and miles every day, and if you do, you definitely don't do it barefoot.

You, and most other people in the developed world including me, have soft feet. Some people work jobs which mean they get tougher feet (jobs involving lot of walking, tight boots), but even this isn't the same thing as just walking around barefoot all the time since you learned to walk.

If you'd never worn shoes you wouldn't have had as many problems walking through the woods without any shoes (and if you'd grown up in a forest, you'd also be better at just not stepping on the sharp pointy things!).
