Hi historians. I'm an actor and July I'm playing a character who was a postman until 1915, then he enlisted and fought in WWI. The play centers around him meeting another soldier but from modern day. He is appalled at some of the language she uses (and the fact that she is in fact a she) etc. etc. I was just wondering if there's any details about this time period you could tell me that mignt help with getting into the head of the character?
Do you mean WWI? If so, then I recommend looking at this list of books partially avaiable on google books for one that fits your taste. Watch out for fiction works like Love Letters from a Doughboy, unless that's what you are most interested in.
If you don't know, "Doughboy" was a slang term that referred to American soldiers in WWI.
