Unlikely. But that's not what's relevant to Britain at the time. Winning or losing the Battle of the Atlantic was in one regard a typical battle where the conclusion is reached at the end. For Britain it was one that could be lost in the middle, due to the dependence of the UK on imports for food. There was a potential for Britain to starve to death and then later its husk would still be useful by the US for staging attacks on Europe, realistically there was no risk of Britain being invaded by the Germans at that time.

The u-boats were highly effective until sonar was improved enough, the germans were sinking ships faster than could be built and since UK depended on food imports this was a huge problem if it had gone on longer.
