Recently I listened to a military Historian on Radio 4 boasting that he wrote military history that women read, Is that something that a Historian should aim to do? How should they go about it?

The Historian was Antony Beevor, and in fairness boast might too unfair a worth.

He did feel it was significant that his book Stalingrad got a significant female readership.

I'm curious as to what military history that's 'woman' friendly looks like?

Also I did actually read Stalingrad, but it was mainly due to the prompting of a boyfriend in Uni.

I haven't read Stalingrad, but based on the reviews it seems like people really enjoyed Beevor's story telling ability. Some military history books tend to throw out numerous numbers of soldiers, weapons, casualties, etc. and there isn't a real sense of people's lives at the time or why certain choices were made during a battle. I think most people, regardless of gender, want to read a good story.
