Once upon a time, there was a king executed by his own government, and years later, the son had everyone involved with his father's execution killed, except for the actual executioner, who's identity was unknown.
who was this king? if i recall correctly, it's a real story, i just don't remember who/when/where
Could it be Charles I (Executed in 1649) and his son Charles II (Who ascended the throne in 1660)?
Charles was executed by the Parliament of England for treason and the leader of the Parliamentarians, Oliver Cromwell, ruled in his stead as 'Lord Protector' until his death in 1658. His son Richard Cromwell succeeded him, but was forced to abdicate after one year.
Charles II became the new King of England in 1660 and one of his first acts was the Indemnity and Oblivion Act of 1660 which granted amnesty to all those who had sided with Parliament against the King. 104 people were excluded, however, who were people directly involved with the trial and execution of King Charles I.
Many of those 104 people were already dead, including Oliver Cromwell (leader of the Parliamentarians), and John Bradshaw an d Henry Ireton (Both judges in the King's trial) who were exhumed, hanged, then decapitated despite the fact all three had been dead for some time (Ireton having been dead 9 years)
Among the 104 were two unknown executioners who may have been the ones to execute the king. The King's executioner wore a mask and did not speak, so no one knew his name. Since they were unknown, they were never punished.
Of the original 104, 24 had already died, 13 were executed, 19 served life in prison, 21 fled capture, 2 were unknown executioners so were never punished, and the remaining 25 were either pardoned, mostly after paying large fines, losing titles and/or land, or died during their trials.
