First of all, I'm very sorry if this is a stupid question. Please do not tell me to "Google it"--I have already done so, and the answers all say that a majority vote is required to impeach the President (which I'm sure is correct). However, none of the answers cite the exact location in the Constitution where this is outlined, which is what I am looking for.
I know that /r/AskHistorians is very centered around citations, so could someone point me to the right location in the text?
Article I, Sec. 2, says that "The House of Representatives ... shall have the sole power of impeachment." The Constitution says nothing about what margin is required. Nor do the Rules of the House. In the absence of any requirement of a supermajority, I would assume that an impeachment resolution would be treated like any other House resolution, or any normal motion, and would require only 50% plus 1 vote to pass.
President Clinton was impeached by a motion officially labeled a "House Resolution," a category that usually requires only a majority vote.
