What was the incident during the cold war that a country behind the iron curtain in Europe sent out a radio broadcast asking for help from the United States after they declared their stance against communism.

I am talking to a co worker about his incident and I learned it in apush back in high school. I am pretty sure they sent a broadcast for help for several days until they were killed off. I wasn't sure if it was an uprising group or the previous government before the curtain fell.

I believe you're referring to the 1956 Hungarian Uprising. Between October 23 and November 4, 1956, the Hungarian people began a spontaneous national uprising in support of Prime Minister Imre Nagy's intention to liberalize the country through multiparty elections, social and economic reforms, the withdrawal of Soviet troops, and a rejection of the Warsaw Pact.

On Nov. 4, 1956, the Soviet Union began a full-scale invasion of the country to crush the uprising, which had been chronicled in "free" radio broadcasts from across the country.
