I have a big gap in my knowledge about the conquest of the Americas, North, Central, and South. Can anyone recommend a decent book or two? Hopefully something with the words Code or Mystery in the title.
I've read "Born in Blood and Fire: Latin American Voices" for my Americas history course and I found it very good. It's a compilation of primary sources from conquistadors, missionaries, and other witnesses to the conquest. It's a fairly short book, under 300 pages, but it contains selected works of primary sources. You can certainly read it and look for more complete work/records from the authors.
