According to Wikipedia's List of Scottish Clans", several coats of arms have the faces or bodies of men of color featured prominently (Clan Borthwick, Clan MacLellan). I was just curious why a Scottish clan would use such a symbol to identify themselves.
/u/deMohac already hit the nail on the head. The Moors were the scourge of the Mediterranean for many of the Christian kingdoms they were neighbors too. Defeating them was often seen as a noteworthy achievement and many kingdoms in the region wanted to make sure their successes were known such as Aragon, Corsica and Sardinia. There are even still some statues like the Quattro Mori commemorating these victories.
The symbol itself (of an African/Moor head) is called the Maure.
