"When was the first school made" will be a very difficult question to answer because of it being too specific. We lack knowledge to ascertain when was the "first school" made, either the first school building or the first educational institution and whether if such existed, will qualify as a "school" in the sense of modern Western education.

The history of education and schools is however very long, and some of the earliest recognizable "schools" in history might be traced back to ancient Sumer during the late third and early second millenium BC. They have scribal schools named "Eduba". Archeological evidence suggest that scribal education in Sumer was small-scale and most took in private homes though some houses with lots of school tables were interpreted by archeologists to be "school houses".

The Sumerian "Eduba" is a scribal school where students, mostly boys since few girls or little education was given to girls, learn how to write cuneiform writing, a particular writing system used by lots of Ancient Near Eastern languages, the Sumerian language, syllabary, vocabulary, and grammar. Archeologists have unearthed tablets of homework assignments and school exercises made by the students, and there was evidence of a school curriculum.
