I'm curious if there was ever a time when emotions were not linked with a heart. For example, in a book, film, poetry, or whatever, love, sadness, or happiness is linked with our hearts. Why are they not linked with our brains, where emotions are processed?

Has this always been the case? Or did this trend show up during a certain time period and caught on ever since?
