Interestingly enough, ancient Rome had one of the first actual remedies available for the treatment of acne. During the Roman Empire, there are documented instances of Romans taking warm mineral baths with sulfur mixed in to treat acne.
Considering this got rid of bacteria, including the kind of bacteria that causes acne, it was pretty effective. Not to mention the sulfur would actually dry the skin preventing oils from building up in the pores, causing zits to pop up.
