Throughout the last century, there have been multiple rumors and conspiracy theories that Anastasia survived the shooting of her entire family by the Bolsheviks. What evidence supports or opposes this theory?
These rumours probably started because of the high level of secrecy surrounding the family's killing and burial, so it was not known for sure if someone might have escaped. But in the past decade, it has been pretty conclusively shown that none survived, including Anastasia. 2 mass graves near the shooting site were discovered in 1991 and 2007. Bone fragments were tested using DNA analysis , compared to each other and to living relatives of the Romanovs. The results showed that the Tsar, Tsarina and all 5 of their children were present in the grave samples.
