The ichthus, the fish associated with Christianity today, has its origins in early Christianity and was used as a symbol to show other Christians that you were a Christian without the Romans knowing that it marked a Christian meeting place or a particular person. It was used as an acronym/acrostic, which when translated into English from Greek is Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.
