I have always wondered how such an outdated view could become so popular then. Why was the view not adopted in Nepal earlier? Would they not have known of how badly it worked out for China? Who introduced the view?

I'm worried that the question focuses on a period which violates the 20 year rule, described in the rules section of the sidebar.
I don't want to remove the question despite the issue because part of it does have to do with years that do not violate the 20 year rule (1990-1996) and could provide interesting answers. Instead I'll limit myself to leaving this comment as a simple reminder of this rule for those who are considering answering.
Alternatively, you could consider reposting the question in a way that doesn't emphasize the period from 1996 to the present.
