I think the bigger value would be your dad enjoying it. Have it worked on. Have the jeweler document all the work with before and after photos. Save all of the original parts so they could be put back to original condition. I think the museums that might be most interest in a item like that would be the WWII museum in New Orleans. Also have you dad write out his story and sign it. Or better yet tell it on tape to document the item also any photo of him in the war with the watch should go with it.
