Couple of questions,
Where the vikings much more advanced in fighting than the British Isles countries? If so, in what ways?
Weren't they out numbered a lot of the time when fighting in say England?
Even if they won wouldn't they leave with depleted numbers? Therefore making the raids a kind of loss?
Is there a laymans documentary about the vikings you'd recommend that covers their history for gen audience?

A few years ago there was a really great AMA about Vikings that you can read here given by /u/einhverfr, /u/eyestache, /u/wee_little_puppetman (whose username I sincerely hope is an Angel reference), and /u/Aerandir.
The answers to your first three questions essentially come down to "they were raiders who made a point of fighting where they weren't outnumbered and then heading back to their ships." As for a documentary, there was a documentary linked in the AMA, but the video appears to have been removed from youtube.
